Tonsils Adenoids & snoring: Part-1 Human upper airo- digestive track has inbuilt fighting cells embedded in mucosa. This is because this part is constantly exposed to foreign particles, infection causing germs etc. These fighting cells are called Mucosa associated lymphoid tissues.(MALT). out of these various small aggregations, largest or leaders are Tonsils & Adenoids. Most of us have frequently heard of tonsils but adenoids is less commonly known. The fact is both these tissues or we call it as glands are present by birth. As we all know, tonsils are present behind the tongue on either side, coonly called tonsillar fossa. Adenoids are located behind the nose, where inspired air takes a90 degrees. Hence adenoids is strategically located at the end of the nose, at the start of airo track and at the start of digesting tract. This strategic location, leads to various problems naarated in part 2.
